Snow Date Information

Unfortunately, we sometimes run into serious problems with snow storms. Hopefully, this will not be the case in 2016. However, if this is the case and there is a need to schedule a special "snow day" the date will be...

SNOW DATE     -     Wednesday March 23, 2016

If there are only a few schools that are unable to make it due to localized weather conditions, we have three options...

1. If you were scheduled early in the festival, we may be able to schedule you on a later day

2. At the committee's discretion, we may send an adjudicator to your school to adjudicate your performances

3. At the committee's discretion, we may ask you to submit a CD recording to us for adjudication

Repertoire

Concert Bands must perform three contrasting selections at their class level. One of the three must be chosen from the National Concert Band Syllabus . Two selections must be in contrasting style and may be individual movements from a single work. It is strongly recommended that one of the 3 selections be lyrical. "Pop" material is inappropriate. Marches are no longer a requirement.

Chamber ensembles are requested to perform two selections of contrasting style - own choice

Orchestras, string orchestras and string chamber ensembles are required to perform a program of contrasting material and styles. There are no required pieces in these classes. Directors are encouraged to select high quality, original works and choose compositions by Canadian composers when appropriate. "Pop" material is inappropriate.

Choral groups must perform a program of three contrasting selections. There are no required pieces for these classes.

Jazz Ensembles must perform a program of three contrasting selections. One selection must be a ballad. Pop material is inappropriate. The Instrumental Jazz Committee has assembled a list of over 100 compositions and arrangements by Canadian writers. Ensembles are encouraged to perform at least one number by a Canadian composer or arranger. Click here to view the National Instrumental Jazz Syllabus.

NOTE:

ALL ENSEMBLES MUST PRESENT TWO ORIGINAL COPIES OF THEIR SCORES FOR ADJUDICATOR PURPOSES. PLEASE ORDER YOUR SCORES EARLY TO ENSURE ARRIVAL BY THE FESTIVAL DATES.
